Offline and safety
Rivers are not known for their mobile coverage
A sign-on book works in a gorge because paper does not need a signal. Any digital replacement has to clear that same bar, or it is worse than the thing it replaced.
How it works
The offline copy is saved before you leave
When a leader starts a trip, EddyIn writes a copy of that trip to their phone and confirms it in writing.
EddyIn does not tell you the offline copy is there until it genuinely is. If the write fails, it says so and offers to try again, because a leader who thinks they have the details and does not is worse off than one who knows they do not.

What stays readable
Everything needed for that trip, and nothing that is not.
The trip
River, section, put-in, take-out, leader and start time.
The headcount
How many people went on the water.
Who is with you
Every paddler and guest on that trip by name.
Contact numbers
Mobile numbers for the people on the trip.
Emergency contacts
Emergency contact name and number for each paddler, tappable to call.
Finishing
Complete the trip at the take-out with no signal, and it sends when you get one.
Keeping it minimal
Only the trip in front of you
Your club's full membership list, with everybody's emergency contacts, is never copied onto a leader's phone.
EddyIn stores the details of the people on that one active trip, and removes them once the trip is completed and that completion has reached EddyIn. A leader carries what they need for the group they took out, for as long as that group is out.
Being honest about it
What offline cannot do
Some of this is physics and some of it is how phones work. None of it is hidden.
- A trip has to be started while there is a signal for the offline copy to be saved.
- A queued completion sends the next time the app is opened with a signal, not silently in the background.
- If a phone is lost, broken or flat, the offline copy goes with it. Your club's own procedures still matter.
Where EddyIn stops
A record, not a rescue service
This matters enough to say plainly rather than bury in the terms.
EddyIn is not an emergency service
It will not call anybody for you. In an emergency, contact the emergency services.
EddyIn does not track paddlers
There is no GPS, no live position and no way to see where a group is on the river.
EddyIn does not replace your procedures
Your risk assessments, your leader qualifications and your safety cover are unchanged.
EddyIn does not judge the conditions
Whether a trip goes ahead is the trip leader's decision, as it always was.
